Today July 3rd is National CROWN Day aka Black Hair Independence Day — and here's why it matters.
The CROWN Act — which stands for Creating a Respectful and Open World for Natural hair — is legislation that prohibits race-based hair discrimination based on hair texture and protective hairstyles, including braids, locs, twists, and knots, in workplaces and schools.
It was first signed into law in California on July 3rd, 2019 — which is why we celebrate National CROWN Day today. Since then, 30 states, Washington D.C., and more than 50 municipalities have CROWN legal protection, covering over 31 million people across the country.
As a co-founder of the CROWN Coalition, Dove has supported The CROWN movement and the passage of the CROWN Act since 2018.
Join the celebration and help make a difference at thecrownact.com.
